Sámi Lavvu Interior
Norway

The Sámi are the Indigenous people of northern Norway, with a deep cultural connection to nature and reindeer herding. Reindeer are central to Sámi life, providing meat, clothing, and transportation. Traditional herding follows seasonal migration routes across vast tundra landscapes. The Sámi live in harmony with the environment, using ancient knowledge to guide their way of life. One important dwelling is the lavvu, a cone-shaped tent made from wooden poles and covered in fabric or hides. The lavvu is portable and suited for life on the move, reflecting the nomadic lifestyle of reindeer herders in the Arctic climate.
