Saint-Léonard Underground Lake
Switzerland

The Underground Lake of Saint-Léonard is one of Switzerland’s most remarkable natural attractions and is recognized as the largest navigable underground lake in Europe. Located in the canton of Valais between Sion and Sierre, the lake stretches through a vast cavern formed within the region’s geological fault system. Since its discovery in the twentieth century, visitors have been able to explore the silent subterranean waters by boat while learning about the cave’s unique geology and history. The site remains one of the most unusual destinations in the Swiss Alps, combining natural beauty with scientific interest.
