Jalan Chuping Lalang
Malaysia
Jalan Chuping Lalang runs through the heart of what was once Malaysia’s "Sugar Bowl." For decades, this area was home to the country's largest sugarcane plantations, covering over 20,000 acres. The landscape was defined by the seasonal cycle of planting and harvesting, with the distinctive Chuping limestone hills serving as a backdrop for the massive sugar mill that once powered the local economy. In recent years, the area has undergone a dramatic transformation. As the sugarcane industry phased out, the land was repurposed for diversified agriculture, including maize cultivation and dairy farming. Despite these changes, the area remains famous for its unique climate—Chuping is officially the hottest place in Malaysia, once recording a record temperature of 40.1°C. Today, the road is a favorite for photographers and travelers seeking the "New Zealand of Malaysia" vibe, where the combination of limestone peaks and wide-open prairies offers a vista unlike anywhere else in the country.
