Nat Pokok Getah
Malaysia
n the northern states of Malaysia, particularly Perlis and Kedah, the word "Nat" is a local term for a morning market, derived from the Thai word nat (meaning "meeting" or "appointment"). Nat Pokok Getah (The Rubber Tree Market) is one of the most famous in the region, named so because it originally began under the cooling canopy of a rubber plantation. The market's history is deeply tied to the lifestyle of local rubber tappers. After completing their early morning work, tappers would gather here to sell small quantities of rubber or trade for fresh produce and household goods. Over the years, it evolved from a simple trading post into a massive community event that draws visitors from across the state every Friday morning. It remains a place where you can find everything from traditional kuih-muih and fresh jungle produce to agricultural tools, preserving the authentic "kampung" spirit of Perlis.
