Valère Basilica, Sion
Switzerland

The Valère Basilica stands atop Valère Hill in Sion, Switzerland, overlooking the Rhône Valley and the historic center of the city. Founded during the Middle Ages, the fortified church formed part of a strategic hilltop complex that played both religious and defensive roles. The basilica is renowned for housing one of the world’s oldest playable pipe organs, dating from the fifteenth century. Together with the neighboring Tourbillon Castle, Valère remains one of the most important cultural and historical landmarks in the canton of Valais.
