Ng Fook Thong Temple
Established in 1819, Ng Fook Thong is one of the oldest Cantonese district associations in Penang. It was founded by early immigrants from the five districts (Ng Fook) of the Guangdong province to provide welfare, shelter, and ancestral worship for the community. The temple is dedicated to Kwan Yin (the Goddess of Mercy) and serves as a vital repository of Cantonese culture and history in George Town. The large mural on its grounds, titled "The Girl in Blue" (though the newer monochrome mural of a woman's face is also prominent), is part of Penang's urban regeneration effort, making the temple a popular stop for those following the heritage and street art trails.
