Winter sunrise over Friedrichsfehn 2.
Germany
A sunrise in the snow in Friedrichsfehn is a special experience, shaped by its geographic location in the Ammerland region and the village's unique structure. Here are a few aspects that make this atmosphere so unique: 1. The interplay of light across the vast plains Friedrichsfehn is surrounded by flat land, moorlands, and typical "Wallhecken" (traditional hedgerows). When the sun rises low in the east during winter, the first golden rays hit the snow cover at a very shallow angle. The effect: Since there are hardly any elevations, the light travels for miles. The snow doesn't just look white; it glows in pastel shades ranging from soft pink to a vibrant golden orange. 2. The silence of the "Moor Village" As Friedrichsfehn is historically a moor village, there are many open spaces (such as the nearby Wildenlohsmoor). Snow acts as a natural sound absorber. The atmosphere: It is often dead calm at sunrise. The only thing you can hear is the crunching of snow under your feet. This absolute silence, combined with the vastness, makes 360-degree shots there incredibly peaceful. 3. Contrasts: Woodland edge and settlement A striking feature for photos in Friedrichsfehn is the transition from the village to the "Wildenloh" forest. When the sun rises behind the snow-capped treetops, long blue shadows stretch across the white fields. This gives your 360-degree photo immense depth and dynamism. 4. The crisp Ammerland air In winter, the east wind in the Ammerland often brings very dry, clear air. For a photographer or observer, this means: Visibility: The colors of the sky are often much more intense (from deep purple to bright yellow) because there is hardly any haze in the air. Crystal formation: Hoarfrost often forms on the typical fences and traditional farmsteads, sparkling like diamonds in the first light of day. A little local fact: Since Friedrichsfehn is very elongated (typical for moor colonization), the main streets often provide a perfect east-west axis, allowing you to experience the sunrise directly "on the road."
More About Germany

Germany? Before the beginning there was Ginnungagap, an empty space of nothingness, filled with pure creative power. (Sort of like the inside of my head.)And it ends with Ragnarok, the twilight of the Gods. In between is much fighting, betrayal and romance. Just as a good Godly story should be.Heroes have their own graveyard called Valhalla. Unfortunately we cannot show you a panorama of it at this time, nor of the lovely Valkyries who are its escort service.Hail Odin, wandering God wielding wisdom and wand! Hail Freya, hail Tyr, hail Thor!Odin made the many lakes and the fish in them. In his traverses across the lands he caused there to be the Mulheim Bridge in Cologne, as did he make the Mercury fountain, Mercury being of his nature. But it is to the mighty Thor that the Hammering Man gives service.Between the time of the Nordic old ones and that of modern Frankfort there may have been a T.Rex or two on the scene. At least some mastodons for sure came through for lunch, then fell into tar pits to become fossils for us to find. And there we must leave you, O my most pure and holy children.Text by Steve Smith.
