Užutrakis Manor stands on a peninsula between lakes Galvė and Skaistis, on ground historically known as Algirdas Island and mentioned in sources as far back as the 14th century. The palace was built at the turn of the 20th century by Count Józef Tyszkiewicz, the first heir of the Užutrakis entail, to a design by the Polish architect Józef Huss — a Historicist composition blending Neo-Renaissance and Neoclassical elements, with interiors decorated in the early French Louis XVI style. Its lakeside terrace, crowned with open pavilions, opens onto one of Lithuania's most celebrated views: Trakai Island Castle across the water, with the church towers and greenery of the old town beyond.

The surrounding park was laid out by the renowned French landscape architect Édouard François André, conceived as a water park with a system of more than twenty ornamental ponds linked to each other and to the two great lakes. Planted within an older forest of pine, spruce and oak, it holds close to a hundred species and forms of trees and shrubs — over half of them brought in specially — along with some 400 species of herbaceous plants and copies of antique sculptures. Originally the counts reached their residence not by road but by raft across the narrows between the lakes, where a ferryman lived.

The family held Užutrakis until the Second World War. Nationalised under Soviet rule, the estate served as a KGB sanatorium, a pioneer camp and a tourist base, during which the palace's original layout was destroyed and the park badly neglected. Today it is a cultural monument of national significance, managed by the Trakai Historical National Park, restored and used for concerts and exhibitions.
