Built in the late 19th century, this mansion was once the opulent residence and office of Kapitan Chung Keng Kwee, a prominent Chinese tycoon and leader of the Hai San secret society. Known originally as "Hai Kee Chan" (Sea Remembrance Hall), the building’s design is a fusion of Chinese carved wood panels, English floor tiles, and Scottish ironwork.
After falling into a state of neglect following World War II, it was meticulously restored by a private collector to serve as a museum. Today, it houses over 1,000 Peranakan artifacts, showcasing the lifestyle, jewelry, and customs of the Baba Nyonya community, making it a popular filming location for international period dramas.
