Penang Ta Kam Hong
Malaysia
Founded in 1832, the Penang Ta Kam Hong is the oldest goldsmiths' guild in Malaysia. It was established by Cantonese craftsmen from the Guangdong province of China to provide a support network for those in the jewelry and precious metals trade. The guild house on Muntri Street serves a dual purpose as an ancestral temple dedicated to Wu Di, the patron deity of goldsmiths. The building is renowned for its intricate craftsmanship, particularly the wood carvings and stone pillars that were created by the guild's own masters. Today, it remains an active association that preserves the traditional skills of the goldsmith trade while standing as a key site within the UNESCO World Heritage area.
