Glass Beach
California

A view of Glass Beach at Fort Bragg, California, to which one can see abundant rounded sea glass mixed with iridescent abalone.  This area was the site of three offshore trash dump sites from 1906-1967 to which items such as batteries, cans, bottles, & appliances were regularly discarded into the ocean, a common practice for disposal by coastal communities.  Over the decades the ocean waves pounded the glass bottles into lovely colorful rounded jewelry-grade sea glass.  Collecting is discouraged to enable future visitors to see the site.
