Frosty Prelude: The Silence Before Sunrise
Germany
1. The Light (Civil Twilight) Even though the sun is still just below the horizon, light is already being scattered by the upper atmosphere. On a cloudy day like today, this creates an environment without harsh shadows. Everything appears soft, pastel, and almost two-dimensional. The frosty blue of the surroundings contrasts sharply today with the dark grey of the clouds, giving your shots a nearly meditative tranquility. 2. Thermals and Flight Feel The air is often at its calmest just before sunrise. The overnight cooling has reached its peak (today’s "feels like" temperature of -6°C). Since the sun hasn't warmed the ground yet, there are almost no rising air currents (thermals). For your drone, this means an extremely stable hover—ideal for long exposures to make the still water of the Zwischenahner Meer or the canals look like silk. 3. The Acoustic Silence Standing in the cold as you launch your drone, you often notice that the world around you is still asleep. In Ammerland, you might only hear the distant cracking of frozen branches or the first calls of birds. This "calm before the storm" of daily life can often be captured in images through wide, minimalist compositions. 4. The Challenge of the "-6°C Feel" Physically, something interesting happens now: Because the humidity is very high at 87%, freezing moisture can form on your drone's propellers (micro-icing). This slightly changes the profile of the blades and causes them to buzz more loudly. It is the exact moment when nature feels most relentless, yet also at its purest.

More About Germany

Germany? Before the beginning there was Ginnungagap, an empty space of nothingness, filled with pure creative power. (Sort of like the inside of my head.)And it ends with Ragnarok, the twilight of the Gods. In between is much fighting, betrayal and romance. Just as a good Godly story should be.Heroes have their own graveyard called Valhalla. Unfortunately we cannot show you a panorama of it at this time, nor of the lovely Valkyries who are its escort service.Hail Odin, wandering God wielding wisdom and wand! Hail Freya, hail Tyr, hail Thor!Odin made the many lakes and the fish in them. In his traverses across the lands he caused there to be the Mulheim Bridge in Cologne, as did he make the Mercury fountain, Mercury being of his nature. But it is to the mighty Thor that the Hammering Man gives service.Between the time of the Nordic old ones and that of modern Frankfort there may have been a T.Rex or two on the scene. At least some mastodons for sure came through for lunch, then fell into tar pits to become fossils for us to find. And there we must leave you, O my most pure and holy children.Text by Steve Smith.
