Monstein is 1,650 meters above sea level in the Davos region of the northern canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. Today, about 200 people live in this typical Walsian village, situated on a sunny plateau.

Monstein's townscape has retained its original character over the years: many of the predominantly wooden houses are still covered with traditional larch shingles. The village was settled over 700 years ago by immigrants from Valais. The approximately 15 "Spiicher" (small wooden houses), built in a similar style in their former homeland, are a reminder of this.

The beautiful village of Monstein also owes its attractiveness to its houses with flower gardens, 10 fountains, a school, two restaurants, a brewery, a village shop, and two churches. Although the 17th-century church in the village center no longer serves as a place of worship, but primarily as an event venue, Sunday Masses are held in the centuries-old "new" church, whose courtyard offers fantastic views of the surrounding mountains.
