Christmas Magic at the Lambertimarkt (2)
Germany

Ambiente & Location Historic Setting: The special appeal of the Lambertimarkt lies in its beautiful location. It stretches around the historic Oldenburg Palace (Schloss Oldenburg), the Old Town Hall (Alte Rathaus), and the namesake St. Lamberti Church. These historic buildings provide a very festive and atmospheric backdrop. Size: You can expect over 100 lovingly decorated wooden stalls and sales booths that wind through the city center. Glittering Lights: The entire market is famous for its rich display of lights, which creates a very warm and cozy atmosphere. Attractions & Highlights Ferris Wheel on Schlossplatz (Palace Square): A true highlight is the traditional Ferris wheel on the Palace Square. From there, you have a fantastic panoramic view over the sparkling sea of lights of the market and the palace. Culinary Offerings: Besides classic Christmas market specialties like mulled wine (Glühwein) and roasted almonds, there are also regional delicacies such as Oldenburg Kale (Grünkohl) and flame-grilled salmon (Flammlachs). Arts and Crafts: You will find a wide selection of high-quality arts and crafts, ranging from wood carvings and ceramics to leather goods and Christmas gifts. Scandinavian Christmas Village: There is often a separate Scandinavian Christmas Village on the Waffenplatz that brings Nordic Christmas magic to Oldenburg. Daily Program: Video Mapping: Christmas motifs are projected onto the façade of the Old Town Hall daily. Visit from Santa Claus: Santa Claus appears daily on the stage at Schlossplatz. Children's Program: There is a heated reading tent featuring story hours and Punch and Judy shows (Kasperletheater). When Does the Market Take Place? The Lambertimarkt traditionally begins towards the end of November and lasts until December 22nd. It is a real crowd-puller (or "visitor magnet") and attracts hundreds of thousands of people every year, including visitors from the neighboring Netherlands.

More About Germany

Germany? Before the beginning there was Ginnungagap, an empty space of nothingness, filled with pure creative power. (Sort of like the inside of my head.)And it ends with Ragnarok, the twilight of the Gods. In between is much fighting, betrayal and romance. Just as a good Godly story should be.Heroes have their own graveyard called Valhalla. Unfortunately we cannot show you a panorama of it at this time, nor of the lovely Valkyries who are its escort service.Hail Odin, wandering God wielding wisdom and wand! Hail Freya, hail Tyr, hail Thor!Odin made the many lakes and the fish in them. In his traverses across the lands he caused there to be the Mulheim Bridge in Cologne, as did he make the Mercury fountain, Mercury being of his nature. But it is to the mighty Thor that the Hammering Man gives service.Between the time of the Nordic old ones and that of modern Frankfort there may have been a T.Rex or two on the scene. At least some mastodons for sure came through for lunch, then fell into tar pits to become fossils for us to find. And there we must leave you, O my most pure and holy children.Text by Steve Smith.
