Orlenok 2023 Vesna
Russia
Three Putey houses near the Orlyonok stopping point, Malaya Olkha River. In the forested monotony of the endless ridges of the Olkha Plateau, there are no more attractive and frequently visited places than the rock outcrops (skalniki), which adorn both the highest points of the ridges and their slopes. People are drawn to them by the unusual appearance of these natural sculptures and the opportunity to test their skills in rock climbing. Hunters and explorers long ago gave names to the most prominent groups of these rocks (Shakhtaiskie Stones, Shinikhtinskie, Potaynye, etc.), but the most famous and visited are those that revealed their beauty after mass deforestation and ended up within the "gravitational pull" of the newly built highway. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, these previously nameless rocks were given their own names: Vityaz, Starukha, Idol, Zerkala (Mirrors), and others. Thus began their new life—a sporting one—as they gained devoted admirers, with love for them passed down from generation to generation.

They launched the earth's second satellite, called Sputnik 1, and were the first country to put a human being into orbit around earth. (The first one is called the Moon.)After the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991, Russia became a federal republic of 83 states.Text by Steve Smith.
