Penang Town Hall
Malaysia
Completed in 1883, the Penang Town Hall is the oldest municipal building in George Town. It was originally built to serve as a social hub for the European elite, housing a library, a theater, and a grand ballroom that hosted high-society functions and official assemblies. While its neighbor, the white City Hall (built in 1903), took over most administrative functions, the Town Hall remained a center for cultural life. In the late 19th century, it was frequently the site of grand balls and theatrical performances. Today, it is a Grade 1 Heritage Building within the UNESCO World Heritage site and continues to be used for public events and art exhibitions.
