The initiative began in October 2016 as part of a national arts festival, where visual arts students from across the country painted 80 murals to beautify Kangar's town center. Between December 2019 and January 2020, the project was revitalized and upgraded to Kangar Street Art 2.0 by 15 local artists from the Persatuan Pelukis Negeri Perlis. The murals were specifically designed to celebrate the heritage and nostalgia of Perlis, featuring iconic local themes like the Awang Batil (traditional storyteller), the Nat Pokok Getah (rubber tree market), and depictions of the town’s daily life from the 1970s. This transformation turned a once-gloomy parking lane into a major tourism hub that preserves the state's cultural narratives through modern street art.
