Bukit Merbok
Malaysia
The name Bukit Merbok (Zebra Dove Hill) is deeply rooted in the local natural environment. It was named after the abundance of merbuk birds (Zebra Doves) and tekukur (Spotted Doves) that frequent the area. Even today, hikers can often hear the distinctive, rhythmic cooing of these birds as they navigate the trails, providing a unique auditory backdrop to the trek. The hill is recognized as one of the most accessible "hidden gems" in Perlis, taking approximately 2 hours to hike, making it a favorite for those seeking a gentle introduction to the state's rugged terrain. It is historically associated with the local community in Beseri, particularly located behind the well-known Pak Mat’s Homestay, where it has evolved from a local landmark into a popular ecotourism spot for weekend hikers and nature photographers.
