Arulmigu Arumugaswamy Dhevasthanam
Malaysia
The story of this temple began in 1965 when a group of seven devotees in Kangar recognized the need for a dedicated Hindu place of worship. The land, originally a mangrove swamp, was provided by the Perlis state government through the assistance of the then Menteri Besar, YAB Dato' Sheikh Ahmad. Local volunteers from Kangar and Arau painstakingly cleared the land, filling it with rocks and earth from nearby hills. A defining moment in its history occurred on April 1, 2002, when the temple’s name was officially changed from Sri Subramaniaswamy Devastanam to Arulmigu Arumugaswamy Dhevasthanam to honor the unique six-faced form of the main deity. It is home to what is considered one of the heaviest and most beautiful Arumugum statues in Southeast Asia. Over the decades, it has evolved from a humble project into the spiritual "protector of Hindus in Perlis," blessed by visits from prominent spiritual leaders like Swami Kirubanantha Varriyar.
